Bartosz Bialkowski stunning display against Nottingham Forest added yet more evidence to a body of work which suggests he may be the Championship’s best goalkeeper.

The Polish goalkeeper has been outstanding since securing the starting spot from Dean Gerken at Portman Road, saving his team time and again as his side’s last line of defence.

He produced a stunning save in the win at Derby on Tuesday night as he turned a deflected Tom Huddlestone shot away as Town held onto their narrow lead, and was at it again at Portman Road on Saturday.

His first came after he palmed a Daryl Murphy shot away in the first half, with Tyler Walker’s follow up looking like to was going to creep over the line before the Pole scampered back and clawed the ball away to safety to keep his side a goal ahead.

He saved from Murphy again in the second half, turning the Irishman’s angled shot over the bar, but saved his best till last as he thwarted his former team-mate once again.

Bialkowski turned Murphy’s header onto the crossbar with a split-second save, before then pushing the ball away while lying on his back following the initial save.

The VAR replay of the save shows just how close the ball came from completely crossing the line, with two thirds of it over, before the Pole was able to push it away.

Following the game at Derby on Tuesday, manager Mick McCarthy praised his keeper and questioned whether he is the league’s best.

“If there’s been a better keeper in the league for the last two seasons I haven’t seen him, certainly at keeping the ball out of his net, at stopping shots he’d fantastic.”
