Ipswich Town defender Jonas Knudsen believes wins will come if the recent level of performances are replicated.

The Blues saw victory slip from their grasp when conceding a 95th-minute goal in Sunday’s 1-1 draw at rivals Norwich City, then lost 1-0 at home to high-flying Cardiff City last night despite playing the better football.

Mick McCarthy’s men are down to 14th in the Championship table having claimed just two wins from their last 11 heading into Saturday’s game at play-off chasing Preston.

“I think, to be fair, we played a good game,” said Knudsen. “I think we showed the fans that came here today the quality we have with the ball. I hope they saw we can play some good football and some positive football. It wasn’t just about the long ball and hopefully we can continue that.

“We didn’t have (Joe) Garner or (Martyn) Waghorn, but the three lads up front, the small boys (Grant Ward, Freddie Sears and Bersant Celina), were different class.

“It’s a little bit disappointing because we could easily have had four points from the last two games and we’ve only got one. We have to take the positives though. If we put the performances in like we have in the last two games then I am sure we will get the points in the future.

“I always want to win, so I’m not happy, but if we play like this I think we will get points.”

Town were among the division’s leading scorers earlier in the campaign, but they’ve now netted just seven goals in their last 12 games across all competitions. Attendances at Portman Road have plummeted to a near 20-year low for league fixtures.

“That’s a little bit disappointing to see,” said the Danish left-back. “I hope they will be back. The fans have to know how good it is for us when they are here and making a good atmosphere. We love that. We always want to make them proud – that’s our job.”

He continued: “We still have a chance to make the top-six though it’s not a big chance and we all know that. Finishing in the top 10 is still a good goal for us. Of course we all want to be in the top-six, but we have to be realistic and say it’s been a very good season for many teams. That’s what disappoints me a bit about some of the negativity because sometimes you have to be realistic.”
