Tom Lawrence says Ipswich Town must improve at Cardiff City on Saturday.

The Welsh international forward netted the 11th goal of his impressive season-long loan spell from Leicester to salvage a smash-and-grab 1-1 draw at Barnsley last weekend.

That last-gasp leveller extended Town’s unbeaten run to eight matches, but there has been two victories in 2017 for the Championship’s draw specialists.

With Mick McCarthy’s men now just seven points above the drop zone heading into their final nine matches, Lawrence said: “The manager is not too happy with Saturday’s performance. We were nowhere near our best, so we’ll take the point, but we can’t perform like that again.

“When we played Reading and they got a draw out of us I thought we got robbed. We’ve robbed one at Barnsley, but I think we’ve been due a bit of luck.

“Now we just need to get the win before the international break. We’ve got to go to Cardiff and show how good we are.”

Former Manchester United youth-teamer Lawrence spent the second-half of last season on loan at the Bluebirds but ended up starting just four of their last 10 games under manager Russell Slade.

“I didn’t get the opportunities that I should have had there under the manager and there was issues off the field,” said Lawrence.

Neil Warnock is now the man in charge at the Cardiff City Stadium. He recently allowed midfielder Emyr Huws to join Town on loan, but the Welsh international will be not be allowed to face his parent club.

Meanwhile, Town duo David McGoldrick and Christophe Berra have received international call-ups.

Centre-back Berra has been named in the Scotland squad for their friendly with Canada (Easter Road – Weds, Mar 22) and World Cup qualifier against Slovenia (Hampden Park – Sun, Mar 26).

Forward McGoldrick is in the 39-man provisional Republic of Ireland squad for their home World Cup qualifiers against Wales (Fri, Mar 24) and Iceland (Tues, Mar 28).

Tommy Smith, Monty Patterson (both New Zealand) and Jonas Knudsen (Denmark) have already been named in their respective countries’ squads, while Lawrence and Huws are likely to be named in the Wales squad.
