Ipswich Town’s triple-threat will come good - Hyam

Bristol City v Ipswich: Fans’ favourite Luke Hyam has backed the Blues’ new strike trio to hit the goal trail as he looks to improve his own tally for the club.

David McGoldrick, Aaron Mclean and Frank Nouble joined Town at the start of the year with manager Mick McCarthy looking to plug the gap left by ten-goal top-scorer DJ Campbell, who returned to parent club, QPR.

McGoldrick will sign permanently in the summer, Nouble has penned an 18-month contract, while Mclean is on loan for the remainder of the season and looking to impress.

Hyam could continue in midfield tomorrow as Town search for their first win in four Championship games at bottom side Bristol City, in a game the former academy starlet has described as a “relegation battle”.

However, the Blues make the trip to the West Country as the lowest scorers in the Championship and with the worst goalscoring record away from home.

As for the Robins, they have yet to keep a clean sheet in the league this season, meaning tomorrow’s clash could be the ideal time for Town to start firing.

“We have got lots of quality in the team, especially up front, with the new signings, and I feel the likes of Frank, Aaron and David can score a lot of goals in this league,” said Hyam, who, along with his fellow midfielders have scored just three goals between them this season.

“The three boys have looked sharp in training the last couple of weeks and once they score one goal, I am sure a few more will come.

“But all the players have to chip in with goals, obviously DJ scored ten goals, so everyone has got to do their bit.

“I am always looking at ways to improve my game and I feel I can get forward more and work on the creative side of my game.”

Town head to Bristol ten points ahead of the rock-bottom Robins, now managed by Sean O’Driscoll and buoyed by the absence of City’s star man, Albert Adomah, who is on Africa Cup of Nations duty with Ghana.

Top scorer Sam Baldock is also struggling with a calf strain but Hyam is still preparing for a tough ride at Ashton Gate.

“I would say it’s a relegation battle as we need to get out of the situation we are in,” said Hyam.

“You would like to think that they will be nervous but you never know with the Championships as it is so inconsistent.

“Bristol and ourselves are both looking up the division and we need to be beating those teams around us.”

  • Quite right John. Our midfield work their socks off but create nothing.

  • If our "triple threat" is to come good they need a better service from midfield. You can't score gaols without the ball.

Don’t judge a book by its cover. When Paul Digby joined Ipswich Town on loan at the start of January it was, from the outside looking in, a strange bit of business.
