Ipswich Town will have to be ‘decent’ to beat us says former Blues skipper David Norris

Leeds United v Ipswich: David Norris has admitted he would love to score against old club Ipswich when he faces them tomorrow.


The Leeds United midfielder, and former skipper of Town, has scored three goals in 15 matches for the Elland Road outfit this season.

He is hoping to add to that tally tomorrow with Ipswich fans knowing what to expect after his last season at Portman Road saw him score 11 times.

Norris, who left Ipswich for Portsmouth before joining Leeds in the summer, said: “It’s never happened to me before so hopefully this will be the one (where I score against an old club).

“I enjoyed it (at Ipswich). It was a good move for me. I made a lot of friends down there, and I had really had a good time there. In my final season I scored a few goals and it was really enjoyable.”

But the 31-year-old knows it won’t be easy against an Ipswich side unbeaten in four and coming into the match on the back of three straight wins.

He added: “They’re flying at the moment – and they’ve played some good teams.

“The new manager has got them playing and they’re obviously fighting for each other so it will be a really tough game. But we’d like to think at home it will take a decent team to beat us.”

Meanwhile, Leeds boss Neil Warnock has admitted he is not surprised that the appointment of Mick McCarthy has seen a change of fortune on the pitch.

“I thought he would do that – he’s a good Championship manager,” Warnock said. “He has them organised. They have pace and power and are on a great run.

“They’re in the top couple in the form table at the moment so it’s just our luck we’re playing them at this time.

“We have to go into this run of games now in good spirits. We also seem to perform better when we’re playing an in-form side.”
