DEFENDER Jack Ainsley netted the only goal of the game as Ipswich Town’s reserves beat Crystal Palace 1-0 in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Playford Road this afternoon.
Lee Bowyer played for the Blues as he steps up his recovery from a groin injury which has kept him out of first team action since the start of the New Year.
Josh Carson – out of the squad for the last five games – also played, but otherwise it was an inexperienced line-up. A number of the second year academy players who were recently told they would not be offered professional terms were given the chance to impress watching scouts.
Both sides are believed to have fielded as trialists, which led to yesterday’s decision to bar spectators.
TICKETS for an evening of Olympic celebration are about to become available, as the fabled flame winds its way across the country towards us.

Another friendly behind closed doors thus stopping the ITFC loyal band of supporters who might have been able to attend no way of getting in ? When we find a Reserve league to play in bring games back to portman rd please

I do worry at the lack of match practice, and sharpness, our current fringe players will have. Scotland, Bullard, Leadbitter, Carson etc... have all played possibly 2 games in the last several weeks. If called upon, I fear the same issues that Healy and Kennedy suffered, in not being up to the pace of the game. It is great that we are winning a few games, but again the lack of forethought is alarming.
