Leiston look for revenge for the ‘worst defeat’ of boss Glen Driver’s reign this weekend, as they host Folkestone Invicta in the FA Trophy – just a week after being thrashed 5-1 at home by the same side in the league, writes Craig Cooper.

The Blues enjoyed a flying start to the season but have struggled of late and self-destructed in last weekend’s thumping by Invicta.

Leiston did bounce back to gain a 2-2 draw at Enfield in the week, although they were leading at the break and conceded a 95th minute leveller.

Now they have the chanced to secure immediate revenge against Folkestone in the First Qualifying Round of the Trophy.

Assistant boss Tony Kinsella said: “The game against Folkestone was littered with individual mistakes, and we defended poorly and made bad decisions throughout the afternoon.

“It was the worst defeat Glen and myself have suffered since we took over at the start of last season.

“However, even though Folkestone have no superstars in their team, they are a good honest side and their manager has got them working hard for each other.”

Kinsella added: “Against Enfield, we were excellent first half. We should have been three or four up at the break but they have come out second half and nicked a point.”

This is just the seventh season that Leiston have competed in the FA Trophy in their history. They have got to the First Round twice and on both occasions lost to Bromley.

They will be missing Chris Henderson, Christy Finch and Kyle Hammond (all injured) while Tom Bullard will be serving a one game suspension.

Of the rematch with Invicta, Kinsella said: “We are expecting another tough match. The FA Trophy is a great competition, which if you get through a few rounds can see the club gain a few more supporters. We all want a good run in it.”

Leiston Reserves hit the road when the travel to Little Oakley, looking to build on Tuesday’s 2-1 success at home to Needham Market Reserves.

Meanwhile, the U-18’s defeated Whitton United U-18’s 4-0 in the week with goals from Ben Snowling, Adam Blades, Toby Groom and Jamie Smith.
