DJ CAMPBELL has assured supporters that he – and his fellow Ipswich Town loanees – are determined to get the club out of the Championship relegation zone.

The 22nd-placed Blues host rock-bottom Peterborough United at Portman Road tomorrow.

Campbell – along with Stephen Henderson, Bradley Orr, Danny Higginbotham, Nigel Reo-Coker, Bilel Mohsni and Tyron Barnett – is only due to be at the Blues until January.

In addition, Guirane N’Daw and Daryl Murphy are on season-long loans, while the likes of Carlos Edwards, Lee Martin and Andy Drury are out of contract next summer.

Asked if losing hurt temporary players as much as long-term signings, Campbell said: “Yes. I think I speak for the rest of the lads here when I say we all know how important it is for this club to stay in this league.

“Fans have made that clear, the previous gaffer, Paul Jewell, made it clear and the new gaffer (Mick McCarthy) has too.

“We know what it means to the fans and the club. And we’ll do the best that we can to get up the table.

“I always try and give my all every game and the rest of the lads feel like that too.

“There are a lot of loan players here, but we’re all trying to push in the same direction.

“We know we need to get out of trouble because this is a position a club of this stature shouldn’t be in.”

Town have taken six points from McCarthy’s first four games in charge, beating Birmingham and Burnley. There have been heavy defeats at Crystal Palace (5-0) and Leicester (6-0) though.

“There are a lot of new players, it might take a bit of time to gel, but I would like to think that when it does we will start winning games,” said Campbell

“I know we haven’t got a lot of time to turn things around. A lot of the lads see their deals expire in December/January, so we need to start kicking on now.

“There can be no excuses – we need to start winning games and fast.”
