MANAGER’S REACTION: Angry Mick McCarthy lets rip after defeat at rock-bottom Bristol City

Bristol City v Ipswich: SEETHING Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy did not hide his anger after watching his side lose 2-1 at rock-bottom Championship club Bristol City.
The Blues led 1-0 through Daryl Murphy’s goal on the half hour before Lee Martin missed a gilt-edged chance to add a killer second before half-time.
Steve Davies equalised less than two minutes after the restart and, after home keeper Tom Heaton pulled off a super double save late on, ex-Town striker Jon Stead grabbed a 90th minute winner.
With Birmingham and Sheffield Wednesday both winning, Town have dropped to 21st in the Championship table. And although the gap to the drop zone remains at six points, the bottom three all have a game in hand.
When asked for his reaction afterwards, the visibly angry McCarthy said: “Livid, p***ed-off, annoyed, angry, disappointed.
“We let them off the hook and should have won the game.
“The miss (from Martin) certainly gave them a lift and we should have been 2-0 up there’s no question about that.
“The goal we conceded straight after half-time was awful, ala Aston Villa. It was a great goal by them, but it shouldn’t happen. We’ve got three defenders marking two – it just shouldn’t happen.
“We’ve made a great chance to win the game ourselves, but then one ball up the middle takes three defenders out. It shouldn’t happen.
“We’ve had the best of the chances in the game, but we’ve lost it so there’s no point me talking about what might have been.
“What is happened is we’ve been beaten and I see the others around us have won.
“I really should be delighted with the performance in the main, but I’m not – because we’ve lost the game. Results determine how I feel over the weekend and I’m going to feel p****d off.”
With David McGoldrick and Daryl Murphy forming a promising strike partnership, McCarthy said: “There will be positives for me to take when I’ve calmed down, but that’s not for this moment in time. You’re asking me how I feel and I feel like there’s a pretty dark, horrible cloud over me at the minute.”
