Martyn Waghorn is loving life at Portman Road.

The Blues striker took his season’s tally to 10 as he found the net during a superb all-round display against Nottingham Forest, in which the bargain £250,000 signing from Rangers netted once and had a hand in two further goals in his side’s 4-2 victory.

Waghorn was a pest all afternoon, never giving the Forest defence a moment’s peace and leading from the front in a game in which talismanic striker Joe Garner was absent with a toe injury.

“I’m really enjoying myself here” the striker said.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better start so I obviously want to keep that going.

“As a team we’re in a really good position to push on. We always keep going and we showed that today to get the three points.

“The work ethic from everyone here is unbelievable. We go out there and play for each other and that frustrates other teams and allows us to thrive going forward.”

Waghorn’s goal and impressive all-round display came against a familiar face, in the form of Forest boss Mark Warburton who took him to Rangers in 2015. That meant the Forest manager was not surprised to see his former striker put in such a good performance.

“I know Martyn very well, I signed him at Rangers,” Warburton said. “He was one of our first signings.

“We were well aware of the threat he posed, dangerous left foot, physical and enjoying his football.

“We weren’t in for Martyn [in the summer], I have to be honest. We had the situation with Britt Assombalonga and we weren’t in for Martyn, but we were aware of the quality he possesses, likewise Joe Garner.”

Long-serving defender Tommy Smith admits the tears were flowing when he said goodbye to his Ipswich Town team mates having today completed his move to MLS side Colorado Rapids.

Ipswich Town remain 12th in the Championship table following Saturday’s dire 1-1 draw at lowly Bolton Wanderers.
