MATCH REPORT: Blackburn 1 Ipswich 0

PUBLISHED: 19:08 09 February 2013 | UPDATED: 19:08 09 February 2013

Blackburn v Ipswich: The Blues slumped to a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Blackburn Rovers, on a day when Mick McCarthy’s team could only muster one shot on target.

A scrappy goal, credited as a Stephen Henderson own goal in the 59th minute was all that separated the teams in what was a dismal spectacle.

Jordan Rhodes wheeled away as if he had got the final touch but TV replays suggested that Aaron Cresswell’s goalline clearance from Grant Hanley’s shot, rebounded into the goal off the Irish keeper.

Town’s best effort came in the 89th minute when Guirane N’Daw flashed a 20-yard volley inches wide of Jake Kean’s right-hand post.

Then, in injury-time, Richard Stearman headed well wide with N’Daw seemingly in a better position to head home.

Rovers looked clueless up until their lucky break but could have made the game safe after going ahead, Rhodes twice heading wide from good positions and forcing Henderson into an impressive one-handed stop when one-on-one.

Town are now just a point clear of the Championship drop-zone, following Jason Scotland’s dramatic winner for Barnsley in their 3-2 victory at Middlesbrough, his third goal in just 63 minutes of action in a Reds’ shirt.

Elsewhere, second-bottom Bristol City defeated visitors Nottingham Forest, 2-0 and basement side Peterborough enjoyed a shock 2-1 victory over high-flying Leicester at London Road.

“All the players and staff are disappointed as the game had 0-0 written all over it,” said midfielder, Luke Hyam.

“It was a close game and I thought we maybe had the better of it.”
