IN-FORM Michael Chopra has targeted ending the season as the Championship’s deadliest marksman.
The Ipswich striker has been in red-hot form recently, his goal against Cardiff bringing his tally to five in four games and 12 for the season.
He now sits in joint third behind Leeds’ Ross McCormack who has 15 and Southampton’s Rickie Lambert with 16.
But that hasn’t stopped Chopra – who also questioned old club Cardiff’s tactics during a series of tweets - from dreaming of a fantastic double swoop to end the most dramatic season of his career.
Chopra tweeted: “Well another win another 3 points, 4 wins on the bounce now, great team effort today so pleased I scored. The reason I celebrated was my emotions took over my head. Sorry if I’ve upset some Cardiff fans.”
He added: “Very strange how a Cardiff team can just play so many long balls when you hav a player like Whitts (Peter Whittingham) in your team that makes things happen.
“Anyway buzzing another goal to add to my tally, 12 this season, might as well go for the golden boot now #playoffs?”
Chopra struck two minutes after half-time during Town’s 3-0 win over the Bluebirds with Lee Martin scoring two either side to earn a jubilant Blues another three points and have supporters dreaming of an amazing push for the play-offs.
Left-back Aaron Cresswell tweeted: “Great display an win again! well done boyss!! #itfc #playoffs?”
While Tommy Smith wrote: “4 on the bounce!!! Another great shift put in by all the lads and the fans were quality yet again! And a clean sheet as well to top it off!”
And keeper Arran Lee-Barrett added: “Three points today! There’s a real buzz in the squad, playing with belief & confidence. The fans are creating such an atmosphere!!”
TICKETS for an evening of Olympic celebration are about to become available, as the fabled flame winds its way across the country towards us.

Well what a complete turnaround of late!!! Congratulations to all of the team, it was so nice to watch the boys play as a team, helping each other out whenever needed, the whole team were great, but Lee and Aaron shone brightly. If this degree of attitude, togetherness and quality continues then I don't doubt the possibility of reaching the play-offs, but surely just being further from the drop-zone is great news for now.

So nice to be able to be positive. I feel much better now, it was gut wrenching to go through the period of depression at ITFC. But a word of caution, if we can win 4 on the trot you can just as easy to lose 4. Don't right of the play offs, but until we are only 3 or 4 points behind the 6th side no point in getting too excited either. Just get you heads down lads and keep putting in a shift and see where it takes us, never know I might visit PR again.

Don't want to belittle Chopra's achievement of actually doing his job for half the season - but does the division 2 leading scorer merit a golden boot? Tarnnished silver might be a more fitting award.

Quite right Mr E - it would be a very tall order to get to the playoffs, but the Golden Boot may be more realistic. However, this is not the worst season so far for a long while. We have 40 points after 31 games. In 20067 and 200910 we had just 39 and 36 points respectively. One win from the next two games will see us having the best season (so far) since 20078! Not that that says a lot!!!

Main Man, have you ever considered the strong likelihood that Snott & Sterile don't really exist and are the figments of some Norwich saddo's imagination? Wretched figments, true, but figments.

Just remember everyone - you would have got fired if you were so rubbish at your own jobs for so long - instead this lot were paid a fortune win lose or draw, rubbish or brilliant. Remember that when you next get hauled over the coals for being a bit late a work....

Well done Simon Clegg - much maligned by certain people on this website - for placing confidence and ITFC cash to help Chops out of his 'pit'. Proven to be a great move for the club and brilliant personal support for a guy in trouble, to be applauded. But of course not by non-supportive fools who just like to read their own words of 'wisdom' in the only place where they can get 'published' - here! The Dynamic Duo (yawn...) of Sterile Steroo & Moronic G Scott take note... Of course, an increasingly successful ITFC under PJ (or anyone else) will ensure we hear less & less from this pair of self-indulgent buffoons

Great to see ME's faith shown in PJ and his support of Chopra being rewarded, long may it continue!

For all the abject negativeness of YM, Steroo and Ged the below extremes of positivity are a little stunning as well. No-one is more pleased than me that we are not going to get relegated now, we are looking more cohesive and the side is not being chopped and changed now. To suggest we could get to P-Offs and have a potential George Best in the side is, frankly, cuckoo- not to mention adding monumental pressure to JET. I fully support optimism where valid but we still only have around 9 players in contract beyond this summer, still have a serious vacuum where management should be nuturing youth, and Clegg, Jewell (and now Hutchings) continue to supply contradictory nonsense to the press. The real tests to come over the next few weeks will be if a player gets injured or when Bowyer is fit again (does he break up the partnership of Drury and Hyam?- I hope not), and will he again ruin Lee-Barretts confidence by dropping him for a loanee because he was a bit wobbly at times yesterday- I sincerely hope he sticks with ALB. Then, in the summer, if he lets (as expected) Scotland, Leadbitter and Bowyer go he will have, just in those 3 players, have freed up around £40k of wages a week. If we get to the end of August again hoping and needing 3-4 more players then I will despair- scouts need to be out there now looking at players with contracts running out and lists already forming. Four wins on the trot is corking, but alongside the progression of the players I would like to see evidence of the management team, CEO and Chairman actually embracing the ITFC way of progressing players.

Play offs and or golden boots are totally out of the question anyone who expects a late run into the top 6 i fear will be sadly disapointed , the team does have some shape and belief and energy now as opposed to november and december when we had none of those qualities, still plenty for mr jewell to sort out this summer though.

I would love to see us get to the playoffs and for chops to get the golden boot but are we not getting a little carried away. We have had one of the worst seasons so far in a long time but we have managed 4 surprising wins in a row. Now I'm sure I just read that John Burls has tipped JET to be another George Best!! Come on 4 wins and the headlines are playoffs and golden boots! Lets take things one game at a time and see what happens. COYB

Well said Tom. I am with you all the way on this and your other recent comments. I am sure a lot of other supporters are as well. I think it is worth adding that PJ managed Martin well earlier in the season and we are now reaping the rewards. The same can be said for other players, and PJ seems to know how to motivate different players with different styles of management (eg publically supporting one whilst reprimanding another).

Must keep our fingers crossed we get no injuries as the team is playing like it used to in the good old days. The play offs are just possible if we continue in this vein. I can see that JET could be another George Best if he continues improving and remembers he has other team mates to pass the ball to.

It was a great result and a great performance, yet again, from Ipswich. Full credit to Jewell and the club - they gave him more time, and he has worked hard with the players he has got, managed them well, got the best out of them, esp Chopra - what a wonderful example of man-management by the club to support him during his troubles, which Chopra has come out and applauded - and he is now repaying that with goals galore! Excellent stuff - well done PJ and team.
