COLCHESTER’S Jamie Moul enjoyed his biggest pay cheque of the year at the Avantha Masters in India.

The 27-year-old, who plays out of Stoke-by-Nayland, picked up 12,600 euros after a tied 35th placed finish, two under-par saw him gain his highest-placed finish of the European Tour season so far.

However, it could have been better, as Moul was four over par after just five holes in his final round.

He battled back well however, settling down to a string of pars, before birdieing the last hole of the day.

It was Jbe Kruger who claimed his maiden European Tour victory on a day that saw Scotland’s Peter Whiteford disqualified late in the third round for moving his ball.

Whiteford, one of the leaders at the start of the day, was removed from contention after television replays of his third shot to the 18th showed that his ball rolled a fraction before he played to the green. Because he signed his card it meant disqualification. Officials reviewed the matter as the 31-year-old began the final round and he was given the bad news just after bogeying the short third.

Whiteford said: “I should have reviewed it. “I’m not cheating. It’s one of those things, but disappointing.”
