Otley College students are boxing clever

Plans to set up a new boxing academy were backed by an Olympic medal winner recently.

Bronze medalist boxer Anthony Ogogo attended an event at the Otley College campus of Easton and Otley College.

After chatting to students, he met up with the newly-appointed boxing coach, Norfolk based Jackson ‘Action’ Williams.

Based in Norwich, Jackson is a former pro-boxer who fought Amir Khan and he has also undertaken several runs across America for charity.

The boxing academy will initially be run out of the Easton College campus based seven miles west of Norwich.

Students from the Otley Campus will also have access to the facilities and expertise.

Ogogo said: “I definitely support the idea of the college boxing academy. I’d like to pay a visit when it gets up and running.”

George Caplan, director of sport at Easton and Otley, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming students to our new academy next year.

“We are delighted that Jackson has agreed to help oversee our expansion plans. His professional experience and knowledge will be invaluable to future learners.

“We look forward to adding boxing to our existing sports academy pathways in football, rugby, tennis, swimming and golf from September 2013.”
