Playing in Firhill, Glasgow, England recorded a stunning nine tries, with flying winger Marland Yarde grabbing a hat-trick and back row Jack Clifford scoring a brace.

Ex-Ipswich School pupil, Day, who plays his rugby with the Northampton Saints, replaced Dan Robson in the 71st minute as England fought back from an early defecit to canter to victory.

England coach Rob Hunter said: “Scotland were very competitive as we knew they would be. Our back line showed how experienced they are tonight with some very well taken tries. This was always going to be a tough game and it’s great to get the win – we’ll enjoy this for 24 hours before focusing all of our attentions onto Italy next week.”

  • Alex Day is a St Josephs College boy through and through. He successfully captained St Jos to a superb win at their National Schools Festival in 2010. A superb Captain and a brilliant team player. Well done Alex!
