IPSWICH TOWN hero Daryl Murphy hailed the Blues’ 3-0 victory over in-form Millwall, describing it as the best team performance he has been involved in this season.

Murphy scored Town’s second goal and played a part in both DJ Campbell strikes, starting the move that led to the opener and then winning the penalty that the on-loan QPR striker despatched for the third.

Town went in a goal to the good at half-time, having put in an impressive first-half shift, yet were indebted to goalkeeper Stephen Henderson who pulled off three stunning saves as the game went from end-to-end in the opening 45 minutes.

Murphy’s goal though, soon after half-time, tamed the Lions and Mick McCarthy’s men ran out comfortable winners, ending the Londoners’ 13-game unbeaten run in the process.

“That was brilliant, we scored three goals and kept a clean sheet so we are very happy,” said Murphy, who now has four goals for the season.

“The performance was definitely the best that I have been involved in this season, we had a good shape and Stephen Henderson was excellent.

“He pulled off two or three saves in the first-half and that quality ran right through the team. Everyone was on top of their game.

“It was great for the fans too. They have been in their rights to boo us at times this season so they deserve what they got today.

“That performance has been coming for a while.”

  • How ignorant are you stereo. I will leave your name as predictive as that is all we get from you. Luke has been playing and would have been if not injured and Hewitt has only just back from injury etc. Mick is getting 100 times the results with the same players so give him some credit and if he is not backed by the owner when the time comes please then comment if you must.

  • Steroo, supporters aren't 'fickle'. They're supporters. So far, against expectations, McCarthy has done an exceptional job. Your speculations bespeak a person so ignorant that he has moved beyond even the realms of bliss. By the way, great result for your mob at Swansea, but that Holt's a bit of a diver isn't he?

  • Excellent result, don't know who would be my man of the match, they were all up for it. Tommy Smith, Martin, and N'Daw would be my three choices but they all deserve several pats on the back. Best performance for a long long time. Nice to see Millwall looking dispirited as the end drew nigh. What a good choice MM was.

  • How fickle 'supporters' are. Mick the Man, an honest plodder adept at turning sow's ears into poor man's silk purses (if given some resources to work with) is predictably taking Offshore Investment FC back to the lower mid-table position in a poor division where Jewell got pilloried. In January Mick the Man will lose half his team and the onlly goalscorer.... can he then fashion a team out of five or six of somebody else's rejects as well as Jewell? Will it mean anything at all if he does? To repeat the obvious, at present Offshore Investment are half a team being run down for investment purproses... only if that policy changes and Mick the Man actually plays younger players like Hyam and Hewitt will any progress be made in this dud season that was effectively over by November.

  • Aww Rob are itfc's performances making you feel inadequate? I feel so sorry for you. 10 points behind 6th when not even half way and a transfer window coming up does not make the season a dud. The only dud around here is yourself.

  • I quote - 'In January Mick the Man will lose half his team and the onlly (sic) goalscorer...can he then fashion a team out of five or six of somebody else's rejects as well as Jewell?' As well as Jewell? Excuse Me! 'Steroo' Is now praising Jewell for his foresight and expertise in bringing in the players he did! have pointed out before that 'Steroo' is a so-called 'troll', namely someone who posts on sites merely to annoy and perhaps cause offence - at least he is confining himself to trivial nonsense concerning football and not the more personally vile abuse that some 'trolls' revel in. Whatever measures MM feels he has to take for the best interests of ITFC can be relied upon to be more grounded in common sense than either of his predecessors. Having said that, one of Jewell's better signings (N'Daw) will be here until the end of the season and Jewell didn't even like him!

  • Stereo, yes 'supporters' are fickle but at least they are supporters of sorts. I trust you don't classify yourself in that category; if so I despair. 'Supporters' are not universally cynical and find a negative in any situation, as you do so I find it difficult to categorise you (well actually I don't but my category wouldn't get printed) and fail to see why you bother to read ITFC reports, let alone comment on them. Until you can make objective remarks and give some credit when it is due, then please keep your prejudiced propaganda to yourself and do all us balanced readers a favour

  • Rob Steroo has been proven correct in the past so why all the abuse? As much as i congratulate McCarthy on an excellent start, its almost identical to the start that Paul Jewell made when Roy Keane was sacked. Therefore we could be back to square one in 2 years time if we don't start making some long term decisions and building a squad of our own players.

  • Personally, I resent being called "fickle" by a man who's paranoid fantasies mean the closest he comes to supporting the club he claims to support (there's a joke for you) is hiding behind his keyboard and constantly bombarding real fans with insults that, somehow, get past the moderator. What he fails to notice, probably through lack of watching the team or actually bothering to listen to anyone with real facts at hand, is that McCarthy is getting from this squad of players, be they permanent or loan signings, what Jewell seemed so incapable of, hence him leaving. Since he took over it's 5 wins, two defeats and a draw, form Jewell was incapable of getting from a very capable squad, one that will hopefully be improved in the January window. Say what you like about the running of the club, but results are all that matter, and MaCarthy is getting them.

  • Ted and Brian; he gets the response he does to his many mindless comments because of the abuse he gives genuine fans every time they dare to say something positive. If he has a real basis in fact for his opinion and not just wild fantasies then he had best present those facts or keep his opinion to himself.
