TYRONE Barnett has completed his loan move to Ipswich Town from fellow Championship strugglers Peterborough.

The 27-year-old was transfer-listed by the London Road club last week after allegations that he breached club discipline.

Now Town have won the race to land the striker – the club’s eighth loan signing in the current squad – after a number of Championship clubs showed interest.

Barnett has completed a switch to Portman Road until January 19, but will not be able to line up against his parent club when the two sides meet on Saturday.

Ipswich first targeted Barnett in January, but the Crawley Town striker opted to join Peterborough for an estimated £1.2 million after a successful loan spell.

But he has failed to shine at struggling Posh this season, scoring just once in 10 appearances.

The news of McCarthy’s interest came after national reports that QPR would look to bring back DJ Campbell to cope with an attacking injury crisis at the Premier League club.

But we understand Campbell’s three-month loan agreement at Portman Road includes a clause which means he can only return if all three parties – QPR, Ipswich and the player himself – agree to it.

It seems unlikely McCarthy would sanction such a move after admitting on Saturday that he withdrew his striker in the 6-0 defeat at Leicester solely to ensure he didn’t get injured before Saturday’s must-win match at home to Peterborough.

Daryl Murphy would be the most at-risk by Barnett’s arrival, though the 6ft 3ins striker won’t be available for selection until Tuesday week when Nottingham Forest visit Portman Road.

Mr Maul, you have your viewpoint but what do you suggest MM does other than bring in loan players?? Trust his judgement, he has been in this line of work some time, be patient and judge him in six weeks time when the transfer window opens. Let's see if ME lets him loose in the market place......don't get too worked up.....you might fall off your stool!!!!

Nothing else he can do untill january , but this is hardly the signing we need right now , i would be very surprised if he got more than a goal or two at the most , but what else can McCarthy do? , this club has seen its best players steadily walk through the exit for the last 3 years , this is the reason we are in such a state now. and why we have such a mountain to climb , you simply cannot let class players leave and replace them with dross.

A gamble, for sure. The Crawley player would be an asset, the Peterborough player a liability. Maybe we need to wait and see who turns up, and how he plays before drawing any conclusions.

Mick the Man obviously feels that Town don't have quite enough players with a questionable attitude... assuming he hasn't simply mistaken Barnett for Boyd as he seems to be thumbing through Jewell's dog-earred scouting notebook at present. If I was the Peterborough manager I would be insisting that Barnett played as he seems virtually incapable of scoring. To label the Posh game as 'must win' is puerile nonsense. Town will have to regress a great deal under Mick the Man's unimaginative management if they are to prise Posh, Barnsley and Bristol City out of the relegation picture by season's end

Old Timer, if your comment of 1 goal in 10 matches is declared inaccurate by our timid moderator then so is Dave Gooderham's since it appeared in his article. I sympathize with your feelings about the moderator since I responded to a Norwich supporter and told him to use his own sit, if they have one, and used the same comment as he made in his post. The moderator rejected mine giving reason as other. I suspect that it is because the Ips.Star is a relative of the Norwich 'rag' and he is under instructions to reject any comments disparaging to Norwich or our 'benefactor' ME.

I do agree with Philip Fairbrother. McCarthy has inherited an unholy mess left by Jewell and co and has very little leeway to make things stable let alone better until January. It is fairly obvious that the calibre of the present playing staff is poor and that a major overhaul is required so I personally feel any judgement would be better left until after January and possibly until the end of the season. After Jewell if we stay up it will be an achievement and if we even approach mid table it would be a miracle. My feelings about Jewell were well documented on here but I for one feel that there is no choice but to back McCarthy in his efforts to make something out of the Jewell dungheap. Nothing more will change, however much we would like to see Clegg gone, so we might as well get behind what is left.

Brian Betts - I made pretty much the same point & was rejected by the moderator as 'inaccurate' 1 goal in 10 matches would appear to be a fact. I also suggested in my view it would be counter productive to force Campbell to stay if he wants to go back to QPR - how can a perssonal opinion be 'inaccurate' ??????????? there seems to be little rhyme or reason to what the moderator lets through & subsequently the overall opinion of the fans can be distorted.

I don't understand the remarks of "another loan signing"??? The transfer window is closed until January.....at least you can "try before you buy" as in the possible case of Richie Wellens. MM can only shuffle the cards he has been left with.....not many aces in this pack....but I believe if anyone can make a hand, then MM is your man. No punches pulled by the big man and he certainly make a great statement today about "not being divided"...team and supporters together....it took Clegg & Co three years to mess it up....MM's only had three weeks to put it right. He gets my vote...shame about some of the other " bar stool managers" who comment on here!
