A 25th anniversary appeal for information about what happened to a young mother-of-two who went missing in Ipswich has yielded new information which cold case teams are investigating.

Amanda Duncan, 26, vanished from the Portman Road area of the town on the night of Friday, July 2, 1993.

It is believed the single mother, from Balliol Close, Woodbridge, worked in the red light district.

On the 25th anniversary of her disappearance, Andy Guy, Suffolk Constabulary’s major crime review and cold case manager, issued a renewed appeal for information about what happened to Ms Duncan, who is believed to have been killed.

As a result of the appeal, Suffolk Constabulary confirmed today that new information had been uncovered.

A police spokesman said: “The unsolved case team received six calls following the anniversary appeal and one of the calls provided them with some new information and they are currently following-up on this.”

It is not known what the new information is.

Speaking at the time of the anniversary appeal, Mr Guy said: “Amanda was the mother of two small boys, a nine month old boy and a three year old boy.

“She had been dropped off in the area of Portman Road at about 11,30pm on July 2.

“She was a sex worker and she was due to be collected about an hour later, but she never returned home from Portman Road.

“We know that earlier in the evening, she had been to collect some drugs, and we know she was due to revisit that house later on, but she never went back there.”

Mr Guy said previous appeals had yielded information and he still hoped to find the answer.

“To my mind Amanda was involved in two high risk activities,” he added. “I believe the people around Amanda at that time know what became of her and it’s those individuals we’re trying to reach out to.”

Mr Guy added that although Ms Duncan was going through a troubled period of her life, there was no question of her dedication to her children.

“She came from a good family, she was a fantastic mother,” he added. “There were several references in the inquiry about how well she looked after her children and they were clean, well fed and well clothed. Those two children have grown up not knowing what happened.”
