Enchanted Entertainment’s annual visit to the Ipswich Regent is the usual star-studded affair, with plenty of audience participation, singing, dancing and another magical 3D projection sequence.

Britain’s Got Talent winner George Sampson plays Jack, who lands himself with a giant problem after trading the Trott family cow for some magic beans.

It’s his favourite pantomime role.

“This is my third time playing Jack. He’s a young superhero only without the superhero powers,” said the dancer and actor, who’s joined in the run by his real-life partner Lauren Grice as the Fairy Godmother.

This year’s pantomime also sees him reunited with his former Waterloo Road co-star Roxanne Pallett. “We’re old buddies... Roxanne was my first kissing scene on TV,” he added.

Ex-Emmerdale actress Roxanne is looking to bring some girl power to this year’s show, adding an essence of drive and passion to the part of Jill.

“I was raised by my mum and my grandma so I’ve always had that instilled in me, that women can do anything. I want to inspire all those little girls,” she said.

“It’s a nice classic story, but I think girls should be empowered and when we tell stories or put on shows we should be emphasizing we can rescue ourselves.”

Pantomime was Roxanne’s very first experience of going to the theatre.

She added: “Obviously I’m looking forward to the costumes and the music and working with this brilliant cast but for me, when I look out and see a whole host of generations out there that’s what means the most to me. Pantomime really is the core of theatre, it means so much... it evokes emotion and thought and it’s something the whole family can talk about in the car on the way home.”

The rest of this year’s cast includes Connor Byrne from CBBC’s Tracy Beaker and The Dumping Ground as Fleshcreep, Britain’s Got Talent impressionist Andrew Fleming as Simple Simon, BBC Radio Suffolk’s Wayne Bavin as Mayor Muddles and director Martin Ramsdin as Dame Trott.
