He’s getting a night off from the renowned Norwich Road restaurant, established in 1964, to join the two-man cast of the Ragged Edge Productions’ comedy.

Written by Nick Ahad and directed by Stefan Escreet, watch father and son Abdul and Khalid on a particularly busy night in their restaurant as they struggle to deal with their customers and their staff while deciding whether Khalid will carry on the family business.

One of the first Indian restaurants in Suffolk and probably one of the oldest in East Anglia, the Taj Mahal got involved thanks to business development manager Ruman Muhith, who’s helping out with its digital marketing while on sabbatical.

“I was driving into London for a meeting and heard Stefan on the radio talking about the show and he said whatever town they go to they find a Bangladeshi run Indian restaurant to take part.”

Sayid, sponsored by Suffolk Linen Ltd, has been the chef there about two years.

“He’ll be on the stage throughout the whole show, cooking live. Every now and again the actors will engage him... they’ll ask what he’s cooking, what are the differences between certain Indian cuisines, how he got into being a chef and how life was like for him back in Bangladesh,” says Ruman.

“He’s going to be cooking a recognisable dish from a regular known menu, a dish for the vegetarian members of the audience and also a traditional Bangladeshi dish that you’ll never find in an Indian restaurant and the audience get to taste all of it.”
