Two Lullaby Concerts will be performed at the United Reformed Church, in Stowmarket, by the City of London Sinfonia, on Friday, October 27.

They are specially designed for children aged two to seven and their parents and carers, and will feature a blend of audience participation, fun and fabulous orchestral music, all woven together by presenter Claire Henry.

In this year’s show, entitled “Mission to Launch”, the orchestra will be on a mission to power up a rocket to take music into space with the help of young audience members. After each concert there will be a chance for children to try out a range of instruments.

The Lullaby Concerts are produced by Orchestras Live, a national music charity that brings orchestral music to thousands of people in culturally under-served areas across England, working in partnership with Suffolk County Music Service, Suffolk Music Hub and a number of local authorities. Last year, the Lullaby Concerts won Best Family Event in the Family Arts Festival awards.

Diana Kearsley, Mid Suffolk District Council’s Lead Member for Health and Wellbeing, said: “Over the past few years the Lullaby Concerts have made a name for themselves in Mid Suffolk and I know many people who can’t wait to see them return this year. We will give them a very warm welcome, and are looking forward to introducing children to orchestral music right here in Stowmarket.”

Tickets for the concerts, which are at 10.30am and 2pm, are priced at £2.50 for children, £5 for adults, £12 for a family of four and can be booked online at http://bit.ly/Lullaby2017, or at Stowmarket Tourist Information Centre or over the phone on 01449 676800.

Movies that tell a good story and have engaging characters provide that all-important re-watch value necessary for a great film. Arts editor Andrew Clarke presents a series of idiosyncratic suggestions for movies which may entertain if you are in the mood for something different.

From Richard Attenborough’s excellent Young Winston (1972) to Jonathan Teplitzky’s Churchill (2017), Winston Churchill has been the subject of countless historical dramas and biopics that have dealt with various stages of the near-mythical figure’s life.

The BBC and Netflix are teaming up to bring us a big-budget drama about the Trojan War and the love affair between Paris and Helen later this year - but let’s get excited about it RIGHT NOW. Wooden horses! Battles! Omens! Sandals without socks!

The line-up for this year’s Aldeburgh Festival has been announced, including the introduction of new £10 tickets for every performance.
