Suffolk-based classical singer Fiona Jessica Wilson wins Music Week Sync award for In Paradisum - from the BCC TV drama Broken.

Suffolk based classical and opera singer Fiona Jessica Wilson last night won a top music industry award for her recording, In Paradisum, which featured in the hit BBC Television drama ‘Broken’ - starring Sean Bean and Anna Friel.

The annual Music Week Sync Awards celebrate the best use of music from within the entertainment industry, whether in films, television, video games and advertising.

In Paradisum, an ethereal piece of operatic music, was written and produced by Ben Robbins and performed by Fiona Jessica Wilson.

It features in episode 2 of the drama, The Communion Scene.

When it was broadcast, in June, the song shot to the top of the iTunes vocal charts, despite being recorded ten years before, as viewers then sought it out on the internet.

Broken was produced by LA Productions and broadcast on the BBC.

Fiona Jessica, based in Ipswich, travels all over the world performing in concerts and on cruise ships, and is also classical music presenter on ICR Ipswich Community Radio, with a weekly show.

She said: “It was amazing, In Paradium was the only piece of classical music nominated this year, and I sat on BBC table.

“It was really spooky. The table was No 15, and it was the 15th award.

“When we went up to get the award, all I could think about was not falling off my wedding shoes!

“It was almost ten years, to the day, that In Paradisum won an award on Classic FM radio. I am really grateful to the BBC and LA Productions who made the series.

“It is great for a piece of classical music to be in the spotlight.”

“I have already have had so many messages and congratulations. The phone has been red hot!”

The full title of the award was Best Sync TV Show - Drama.

The drama `Broken’ had been nominated for a number of other awards, she added, not just for music.
