An 18-year-old cellist will perform the piece that saw him crowned Musician of the Year during a concert in Ipswich this month.

Sheku Kanneh-Mason will join the Ipswich Symphony Orchestra for its performance at the Corn Exchange on Saturday, November 25.

Sheku was crowned BBC Young Musician of the Year 2016, becoming the first black musician to take the title in the award’s 38 year history.

Judges praised his “sincere and moving performance”.

The Corn Exchange concert will see Sheku play Shostakovich’s First Cello Concerto, which won him the competition, along with Rachmaninov’s Second Symphony in an all-Russian programme conducted by Adam Gatehouse.

Next year, Sheku will tour Europe and America.

Tickets are on sale now at the Regent’s website or by phoning 01473 433100.

Under-18s and full-time students, with ID, go free. Balcony seats cost £15.50, stalls £14, concessions £12.
