Road closures as part of a £3million sewerage scheme on the outskirts of Ipswich is set to cause disruption for eight months.

Grove Hill and Chapel Road in Belstead are set to be closed from July 17 until March 26 next year as part of the works being carried out by Anglian Water.

Homes in the village will be able to connect to mains sewerage for the first time as part of the work.

Molly McKie, spokesperson for Anglian Water, said: “Following investigations in the area, the assessed findings found that the current drainage systems were not working correctly and there was a high risk of pollution in the area.

“We are delighted to be able to deliver these projects for the residents of Belstead.

"This will not only enable them to simplify their wastewater disposal, but also protect the area from flooding and pollutions in the future. We would like to thank everyone for their patience while we are working in the area.”

Work to install the two-kilometres of sewer pipes and two news pumping stations will begin in June, before the road closures start in July.

Starting from July 17, Grove Hill will be shut throughout the entirety of the works before reopening on March 26, 2024.

Chapel Road will be closed between September 5 and November 20, and November 21 and December 15.

The work is expected to be completed by April 2024.

These schemes will help to reduce pollution in Belstead which is caused by poor performing private drainage systems.

Residents who have chosen to connect to the new sewer have been contacted by the project team.
