A man from Ipswich has been ordered by magistrates to pay out nearly £200 for exceeding the speed limit in Wales.

Ahmed Karda, of Birkfield Road in the Suffolk town, was caught driving above the 30mph speed limit while in the Welsh capital of Cardiff.

The 23-year-old was driving a Smart Fortwo car down the A470 in the city on July 18 last year when he was caught on an automatic speed camera going at a speed of 35mph, according to a court listing.

He pleaded guilty to a single charge of speeding at more than 30mph in a hearing at Cardiff Magistrates' Court earlier this month.

The case was dealt with through the single justice procedure, which deals more minor offences not heard before a crown court.

Karda was ordered to pay out a total of £196.

This included a fine of £76, £30 in the form of a victim surcharge and £90 in costs.

Additionally, Karda was also handed three points on his driving licence.

Karda's guilty plea was taken into consideration at sentencing.
