Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna personally thanked litter collection staff for cleaning up following the Premier League promotion.
The Tractor Boys secured promotion on Saturday with a 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town and the players celebrated their win on Bank Holiday Monday in an open-top bus parade through Ipswich.
Following the celebrations, McKenna turned up and thanked those cleaning up the mess left over in Christchurch Park.
Michael Bolton Jr, manager of the waste management company Hero Site Solutions, said his team of just six collected three tonnes of rubbish and removed 5,000 litres of toilet waste.
Mr Bolton said: “We were putting some portaloos away and clearing some rubbish at the time and he [McKenna] was on a walk with his family, and he looked like he was just having a quiet moment with his wife and kids.
“He walked past us and just checked in on us and just said 'is everything alright' and 'thank you for all your help this weekend'. He was just grateful for what we had all done and I just thought it was a nice touch.
“There was no way I would let him do litter picking. What he did was just check in on us and we appreciated his comments because we had worked hard all weekend doing very late nights getting everything ready for the parade.
“He didn’t have to stop, and it was a good morale booster for our lads and that’s the sort of character he is I think. He’s just very down to earth.”
Mr Bolton added: “There are six regulars and the boys have really grafted hard this weekend. I think this is something Ipswich has needed for quite some years now.
"It’s got a bit of bad press over the years, and I think this is exactly what it needs to get back on its feet.”
