A dog that got stuck in the mud on a river bank has been freed my firefighters - saving the dog’s owner a swim.

The brown labrador fell 30 feet into the River Colne while walking along Hythe Quay, Colchester at around 11am this morning.

The animal managed to get itself out of the river, but got stuck on the bank, with its owner preparing to go into the river to free the trapped dog until firefighters took over.

An animal rescue unit, as well as crews from Colchester and Great Baddow, were able to rescue the dog using lines and water rescue equipment, with the dog safely back on dry land by midday.
