Suffolk County Council’s cabinet has backed its statement of aims and priorities for the next four years – based closely on the Conservative manifesto from the May elections.
The priorities are centred on many policies already being pursued by the council, including the construction of new river crossings at Ipswich and Lowestoft and the replacement of former county council residential homes by 10 new homes built and managed by Care UK.
There is a commitment to spend more than £1billion over the next four years on care for elderly and adult disabled people in the county – the budget for adult care services is £230m in 2017/18 but is expected to rise over the next four years and also includes other provisions like library support and funding for health support in the county.
It plans to repair a quarter of the roads it is responsible for during the period – 1,000 out of the 4,000 miles it maintains.
