Five more motorists lost their licences at the magistrates’ court in Bury St Edmunds after admitting drink-driving-related offences over the Christmas period.

n Damien Zagula, of London Road, Ipswich, received a four-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, after pleading guilty to drink-driving, having no insurance, and driving otherwise in accordance with a licence.

The unemployed 35-year-old, who is said to have been spotted driving erratically in Rougham Road, Bury, on December 18, was disqualified from driving for 40 months.

He must also undertake a thinking skills programme and pay fines and costs totalling £165.

At the time was breathalysed after his BMW came to a halt Zagula had 72 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35mcgs.

n Lee Newman, of Bournemouth Road, Holland-on-Sea, near Clacton, also lost his licence after admitting drink-driving.

The 38-year-old was banned from the road for 36 months and ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £325.

Newman had 40mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath after he drove a Ford Fiesta on the A140 at Earl Stonham on Christmas Day just before 8.45pm.

n Shaun Denny, of St Mary’s Road, Creeting St Mary, pleaded guilty to failing to provide a breath specimen on Christmas Eve at Martlesham.

The 37-year-old was disqualified from driving for 16 months and must pay a total of £416 in fines and costs. The groundsman was arrested in St Mary’s Road at 7.50pm.

n Edmund Gilbert, of The Green, Risby, near Bury, lost his licence for 20 months after admitting drink-driving.

The 31-year-old tree surgeon had 74mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath after police were called to an accident in Flempton Road, Risby, on December 16. Gilbert was also ordered to pay fines and costs of £440.

n Piotr Albrecht, of Croft Road, Newmarket, was banned for 18 months after admitting drink-driving.

The 27-year-old had 81mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath.

He had been driving a Mazda 6 in High Street, Newmarket, on December 20.

Albrecht must also pay a total of £492 in fines and costs.
