Tributes have been paid to a 29-year-old father from Colchester, who was found dead in woodland near Levington earlier this month.

Martyn David Bunting, of Hargood Close, was discovered on July 3 in a forest off Felixstowe Road, near Levington, but police say there are no suspicious circumstances.

It is understood Mr Bunting, who had six children, was seen hanging in the woodland by a member of the public who alerted the police.

Since his death, a JustGiving page has been set up by Mr Bunting’s family in the hope of raising £5,000 for his funeral.

On the page, it reads: “Martyn leaves behind his fiancé and six children, who he worked hard to provide for and loved dearly. His commitment to providing financially was inspirational.

“However, their tragic loss not only came as a complete shock for his family, but means that this fiancé is rendered helpless, not knowing how to bury the man she loves and the father to her devastated children.”

It adds: “Martyn unfortunately did not realise how proud everyone was of him; coming through some of the most difficult times of his life and still holding enough love in his heart for all his family.

“Equally, we are guilty of not realising how little he valued himself and his place in this world.”

“If we knew then what we do now, we would make him know just how much he is loved and adored and that taking his own life was not the answer.”

Comments have also been left on Facebook, with people remembering Mr Bunting.

One wrote: “RIP, you helped me so much and you will be missed by loads and by me. If it was not for you I would not be where I am. You made me feel worthwhile and I learned loads from you when working with you. You were a good mate. Rest in peace.”

An inquest was opened into Mr Bunting’s death at Essex Coroners’ Court, in Chelmsford, yesterday with a full inquest due in October.

A post mortem examination has so far given the cause of death as hanging, but awaits a toxicology report.
