So much for summer. Moments after the gates opened for East Coast Live at Chantry Park in Ipswich so did the skies!

The predicted showers turned into a torrential downpour but once Alexa Goddard’s set started a bit of blue sky began to peek through the clouds.

Nobody was going to let the British weather spoil their fun though.

A decent sized crowd had gathered early at the park to nab a prime spot to see some of the biggest names in music perform at Blinkbox Music East Coast Live.

More than 30,000 tickets had been sold before the day, and the promoters are expecting more to pay on the gate.

Come early afternoon the rain had lifted and so had the noise levels with blistering sets by Rixton and Neon Jungle featuring Suffolk’s own Asami Zdrenka.

You could probably tell when X Factor finalists Union J came on stage even if you were nowhere near Chantry Park.

Working their fans into a screaming frenzy, all eyes were on them instead of the looming rain clouds.

When the rain came nobody cared, they were all having too much fun, something The Vamps kept it coming with fan noise levels nearing those of the Union J fans.

The suggestive Jason Derulo, making a rare 2014 UK festival appearance, and his dance crew kept the audience warm by encouraging them to “wiggle it”.

They were certainly ready to entertain, their pre-show chanting threatening to drown out The Saturdays while I was talking to them backstage.

Bravo to the girl group who wowed on stage in outfits that must have left them freezing.

Rizzle Kicks were their usual fun selves and seemed to give the slightly lagging and very wet crowd a lift.

The day, as good as it had been, hit an altogether other gear when Jessie J strode on. It was electric.

Owning the stage from the first note, everybody was on their feet.

Making sure we weren’t too wet and cold, we joined her to sing happy birthday to one of her crew before dancing the rest of the night away.

Rain? What rain?
