Ipswich Hospital suffered a power cut yesterday after a “large fault” in the area.

External power was lost at the site for around five minutes after an outage on Woodbridge Road just before 7pm.

UK Power Networks, who look after the region’s power, confirmed on Twitter that they were experiencing “a large fault in the area” at the time and were sending engineers to the area.

No services at the hospital were affected by the outage as back up generators were quickly powered up to keep the site going.

A spokesman for the hospital said: “The site lost power at 6.58pm due to a high voltage external cable fault in the IP4 area and, as a result, our emergency generators and back-up system ran as we expected until power was restored.”
