A rapist has been jailed for six years after attacking a young woman as she slept at an address in Ipswich.

Tautvydas Bruzas, 37, of Berners Street, Ipswich, was arrest on September 14, 2013, following reports that a woman in her early 20s had been raped.

The victim told police that she had fallen asleep at the address and woke to find Bruzas raping her.

He was found guilty at Ipswich Crown Court today and jailed for six years.

Acting Detective Inspector Darren Bruce said; “Bruzas initially told police the sex had been consensual – despite him telling witnesses at the scene that nothing had happened – but with the victims account, and that of others present in the property, he was charged with rape.

“We hope today’s verdict will go some way to helping her as she tries to come to terms with what happened.

“Every allegation of rape is fully investigated by Suffolk Police, with specialist officers guiding victims through the process. Support and advice is available from a range of agencies and police work closely with partners to work towards the successful prosecution of offenders.”
