An elderly woman has today claimed a pothole-ridden road in the town could cause an accident.

Muriel Lacey, who lives in Dryden Road, alerted the council a couple of weeks ago after she spotted several large holes in her street however she claims no repairs have been carried out yet.

The 78-year-old, who worked for the council for 25 years, said: “It is so dangerous. I am concerned there will be an accident and someone will get injured. If someone does get injured, it would end up costing more than if the road was repaired.

“It is not good enough. If they do not do anything, I shall have to make a stand.”

Earlier this year a report by the GMB Union revealed that nearly a third of Suffolk’s streets were identified as “requiring attention”.

And transport bosses at Suffolk County Council said that budget cuts mean the state of roads may get worse.

An Ipswich Borough Council spokesman said: “Our engineers are investigating the situation in Dryden Road. As for potholes in general, we do repairs in line with SCC guidelines. We aim to repair “medium” potholes (50ml) within 28 days of reported, bigger ones (100ml) within 24 hours. People can call the general reporting line on 01473 432727 or via www.ipswich.gov.uk and click on Report It on the home page.”

Two years ago The Star launched its Spot the Pot campaign after freezing weather conditions caused damage to several roads across the county. A list was given to the county council for them to investigate.
