Suffolk Police were contacted around 4.50pm yesterday, Wednesday, July 12, with concerns for a woman who had been admitted to Accident and Emergency at Ipswich hospital.

The woman was said to be ‘very unwell’, having been found on the floor at her home where she has believed to have been for some time.

Officers began an investigation and arrested a 58-year-old man, from Felixstowe, on suspicion of GBH at around 6.45pm yesterday.

He was taken into custody at Martlesham Police Investigation Centre where he was being interviewed about what happened.

This afternoon, Thursday July 13, it has been confirmed that the woman has died. The 58-year-old man has now been arrested on suspicion of murder.

He has now been released under investigation

A cordon remains in place around an address at Leeward Court in Felixstowe and police enquiries continue.

One man, who lives nearby but did not want to be named, said: “It is horrible to think that someone has died, yeah. It’s not good at all.

“They keep themselves to themselves in that block, the people in there seem nice enough.

“I hadn’t heard anything, I’d seen a few ambulances and police around there over the last couple of days but I don’t know if that was to do with this.”

Another resident, who also wished to be kept anonymous, said: “It’s not a nice thing to think about. It’s relatively quiet around here and in this street so it’s strange to hear something like this.

“There’s been some policemen about and some police tape outside today.”
