As Ipswich Town take to the field against Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow afternoon, one diehard Owls fan will be hoping the team he has followed since the 1920s can return to South Yorkshire with an away win.
Among spectators in the East of England Co-operative Stand will be 101-year-old Jesse Webb, who attended his first game at Hillsborough in 1923.
Mr Webb, whose birthday is in July, moved to Grove Court care home, in Woodbridge, 18 months ago to be closer to his daughter’s family in Aldeburgh.
Thought to be Wednesday’s oldest fan, Mr Webb turned out for almost every home game until he was in his 70s.
He will be joined at the game by Grove Court’s Doreen Pegg and members of his family, which includes four grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Mr Webb served in the Royal Marines during the war – touring North Africa, Italy and Israel.
His daughter, Anne Taylor said Mr Webb’s memory for results and scorers is as clear as it was the day he attended games.
The in-form Owls visit Portman Road on a five-match winning streak and can clinch a Championship play-off spot with victory tomorrow.
