A person struck by a train between Manningtree and Colchester yesterday afternoon has died, police have confirmed.
British Transport Police officers were called to Bargate Lane in Ardleigh shortly before 5pm, where a person was reported to have been struck by a train.
A spokesman said that teams from the East of England Ambulance Service also attended, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers are treating the death as non-suspicious.
A file is being prepared for the coroner.
The incident, which involved a Colchester to Norwich train, left severe delays on trains between Norwich and London, with delays of around 90 minutes and short notice cancellations and revisions.
Rail replacement buses were in use between Colchester and Ipswich, via Manningtree, while the incident was ongoing, before all line were re-opened shortly after 6.30pm.
Greater Anglia lifted ticket restrictions for the remainder of the day to help passengers reach their destinations.
