British Transport Police (BTP) from Colchester were sent to reports of a rave close to a railway station in east Suffolk last night.

Supported by police officers from Ipswich, teams from the Essex force arrived at a level crossing close to Melton station yesterday evening.

They were responding to reports of a rave in the area – but when they got there they found a small number of teenagers celebrating their A-level results.

Officers said they gave the group some advice and told them to stay off the tracks.

They left the scene shortly afterwards.

Posting on Twitter, a spokesman for BTP in Essex said: “Officers from #Colchester attended a level crossing nr #Melton with @IpsEastPolice following reports of a rave.

“In reality it was a few teenagers celebrating their A-levels. Advice given correct #UWC procedure and staying off the tracks #realitycheck.”

Suffolk police confirmed they attended but said they were assisting BTP rather than leading the investigation.
