Officers investigating a crash in Ipswich where a motorcyclist suffered a serious back injury have charged a 22-year-old man who was arrested shortly after the incident.

The crash, which happened at around midday yesterday in Heatherhayes, saw a motorcyclist in his 20s flown by air ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge following a collision with a parked Nissan Micra.

Thomas Porter, of Burrell Road, Ipswich, was arrested at the scene and was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

He was subsequently charged with obstructing a constable in execution of his duty, driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence, driving without insurance and driving while using a mobile phone.

He has been bailed to appear at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Monday, August 21.

Officers are appealing for anyone who may have seen a yellow motocross bike being ridden around the Stoke Park and Chantry areas yesterday morning to make contact.

Any witnesses should call the PHQ Roads Policing and Firearms Operations Team on 101, quoting reference CAD 136 of August 2.
