A man was sprayed with what police think was bleach as he slept on a park bench in Ipswich.

The victim was asleep on a bench in Gippeswyk Park when a liquid was sprayed on him at about 4.30pm on Thursday, July 27.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene, and the 54-year-old victim was taken to hospital for treatment to his eyes.

He is not thought to have suffered any permanent injury as a result of the incident.

Officers believe the liquid may have been bleach, although this has not been confirmed.

However, police have said it was not acid.

Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the attack, or who was in the park at the time and saw anything suspicious, to make contact.
