Suffolk’s police and crime commissioner last night pledged that action would be taken to improve road safety and awareness after a motorcyclist died in a two-vehicle collision near Snape – the 10th fatality on Suffolk’s roads so far this year.

Police last night named the motorcyclist as 50-year-old Neil Moss, of Pettistree, who was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident on Saturday afternoon.

The collision on Saturday was the second fatal incident involving a motorcyclist in Suffolk in just four days and means the county could potentially experience its worst road death toll since 2009, when 42 people died in 37 collisions.

Suffolk Police and Crime Commissioner, Tim Passmore, admitted the issue of road safety was a serious one and that raising awareness of cyclists and motorcyclists would be a priority next month.

He added: “I sit on the Suffolk Roadsafe board and we are concerned and want to do what we can do for road safety for motorcyclists and cyclists.

“Any accident like that is devastating for friends and family. It is a serious issue.”

Mr Passmore said there are a wealth of measures that could be put in place to improve safety, such as ‘Think Bike’ signs, but that drivers and riders also need to be careful and aware when out on the road.

He added: “We (road safety officials) really do need to raise the game on this, as road safety is a priority.

“I really want people to understand it is not just the A14, general road safety is of equal importance.”

The incident on Saturday happened in Snape Road, between Snape and Sudbourne, at about 1.20pm. It involved a motorcycle and a Honda Accord.

Police, paramedics, the fire service and the East Anglian Air Ambulance were all sent to the incident but the motorcyclist, Mr Moss, was declared dead on the scene.

The road was closed while a collision investigation took place and it was reopened just before 6pm.

The incident followed a fatal collision on that A12 near Saxmundham on Wednesday.

Adrian Klein, a 39-year-old Yoxford man, was named as the man who died when his Suzuki motorcycle was involved in a collision with a Peugeot at Carlton at about 7.10pm.

He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on the dual carriageway between the B1110 and the B1121 junctions.

Three people have been arrested in connection with the death and released on bail until Wednesday, May 7.

Any witnesses to the collision near Snape on Saturday are being asked to call Serious Collision Investigation Team on 101.
