Around 45 members of the Suffolk Taoist Tai Chi Society (TM) spent two hours in Christchurch Park on Saturday performing moves.

Park visitors were told about the benefits of tai chi, which are said to involve improved blood circulation, flexibility, lung capacity, balance as well as preventing osteoporosis, increasing mental functions and relieving depression.

Several passersby, including children, joined the group as did Ipswich’s mayor Sarah Barber, who had been invited.

Branch chairman Sue Denny said event was held to celebrate the group’s anniversary in Ipswich as well as promoting the health benefits, particularly for older people.

The group also highlighted that October 1 is International Seniors Day when members will be at their European Centre in Bounstead Road, Colchester, doing tai chi and taking part in a global link up with other parts of the society across the world.

Taoist Tai Chi Society is an international organisation following the teaching os Master Moy Lin Shin, a Taoist monk.

Classes are run in 26 countries. In Suffolk there are classes in Ipswich, Lavenham, Woodbridge and Felixstowe.
