Initiative from The Suffolk Coast is packed with trails of activities and places to eat.

Ever find yourself stuck at the weekends? Where shall we go? What can we do?

A clever new tool developed by The Suffolk Coast, East Suffolk Food Trails, aims to make life easier by curating a collection of food and activity trails.

Supported by local councils, the website invites food and leisure businesses to register for free, and encourages users to build their own trails for a day out – or take advantage of pre-existing trails.

Every trail is given a unique URL and can be kept and shared.

“The trail at Iken and Snape is quite nice,” says Jess Brown who is spearheading the campaign. “You stay with Suffolk Secrets and then have lunch or a snack at Pump Street Bakery, go out with Iken Canoes then head onto Aldeburgh for fish and chips.

“Suffolk has these expanding pockets of eating cultures which I think is really interesting. Woodbridge is bohemian. Halesworth has that café culture…in every town you get a slightly different scene. It’s nice to see lots of our eateries focussing on local produce.

“You could go to just a café and have bacon or sausage roll, but they are tending to be using local produce which is a good sign – it’s supporting the local economy.

“Ideally we want people to add places we don’t really know about so we can discover those secrets – everyone likes to find places that the locals know about!”
