Britannia Primary School received a visit from members of the Suffolk Agricultural Association (SAA) this week when they were presented with a trophy as the first Suffolk Farming School of the Year.

The competition was launched in 2013 and for the first year the theme was sheep. Pupils at Britannia won the competition with the models of sheep which they created.

This year the theme is combinable crops and Bruce Kerr, a farmer and member of the SAA, brought his tractor to the school to show to pupils.

“We took in with us samples of different crops that we grow and the different products that come out of them, so linking what they might eat for breakfast with the farming products,” said Mr Kerr.

“They were brilliant... It’s fantastic to get the link back to the farm so they can get an element of understanding about their food.”

Teacher Cieran Dadds said pupils were “buzzing” with excitement after the visit.
