Bosses at Obsession Tattoo Studio in Felixstowe Road say requests are flooding in for the artwork, which symbolises the work ethic of Mancunians during the Industrial Revolution.

Among the first to be tattooed with the design was Charlotte Campbell, mother of 15-year-old Olivia Campbell who was among 22 people killed when Salman Abedi’s nail bomb detonated at the Manchester Arena a week ago.

Tattoo artist Sonia Clarke said Obsession have had a number of requests from people wanting to be inked with the iconic design since the attack happened last Monday.

Customers are asked for a minimum donation of £40, every penny of which will go to the Manchester Arena Victim’s Fund.

Ipswich resident Liam Tyler – who had never been tattooed before – had the design inked on his arm this morning.

Ms Clarke said: “It’s really gathering momentum, this appeal, and there are so many people that have come in wanting to be tattooed with it in Ipswich.

“I think the design is really iconic, it’s a symbol of Manchester and it helps people to show their support.

“We’re so far away here in Suffolk but we stand with the victims of the attacks.

“People that work here have also started having the bee done.”

Around 59 people were injured – some critically – when a bomb detonated close to the foyer at Manchester Arena, just minutes after an Ariana Grande concert ended.

The explosion went off at around 10.30pm on May 22 – and a fast-paced police investigation into what happened is continuing.

Detectives arrested a 23-year-old man at an address in Shoreham-by-Sea on suspicion of terror offences in the early hours of today.

A further 14 men were being held in custody in connection with the attack this morning.

Ms Clarke added: “We’re having a lot of people in to get the tattoo done next weekend.

“I think it’s great we can get involved in something that’s spread as far as New York, and of course every donation customers give us goes to the victim’s fund.
