Students fundraising for international charity work

The first University Campus Suffolk (UCS) RAG Week, managed by students on the BA (Hons) Event, Tourism, Hospitality and Leisure Management course, raised a total of almost £790 in aid of Oxfam through a range of activities which took place on the Ipswich Campus last week.

Natasha Hook, one of the students involved in running the event, said: “This Rag Week has been a huge success and we have been very proud of all the teams. The money raised for Oxfam will support development work, emergency response teams, and campaigning for change in poorer countries.”

RAG Week kicked off with an ‘Oxjam’ gig hosted at Cult Café. Musicians such as Underline the Sky and De’Vide from BBC’s ‘The Voice’, donated their time and talent to an event which raised around £170.

This was followed by a RAG Day in the UCS Waterfront Building which raised an additional £400. The event included a ‘Rags4Rag’ vintage and pre-loved clothes sale, a pop-up photo-shoot from professional photographer Neil Salter, and a World Supermarket providing sweet and savoury snacks and refreshments.

The RAG Week culminated with a closing Oxjam gig at The Steamboat Tavern in Ipswich which attracted a large crowd and £220 in donations on the door.

Natasha added: “We would like to say a big thank you to all the local businesses, sponsors and individuals who kindly donated resources, gave their time and supported us during the week.”
