Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy held his pre-match press conference at Playford Road on Friday afternoon, prior to the Blues’ Championship clash with Brentford at Portman Road, on Saturday.

The Town boss discussed the latest injury to rock his squad, that of skipper Luke Chambers, and explained what a big impact the stalwart’s absence could have on the team.

He also discussed his search for a centre-half, with Chambers joining Adam Webster and Tommy Smith in the treatment room, and revealed which players, out of his walking wounded, were closing in on first-team returns.

McCarthy was also warm in his praise for Brentford, who have endured a difficult start to the season, their performances being better than their recent results suggest.
