We have assembled a group of Town fans to predict the outcome of Ipswich games and have their say on what’s going on at Portman Road.
Welcome to the first edition of our new Ipswich Town Fans Jury. Every week, our panel of Ipswich Town fans will make their predictions ahead of the Blues’ latest game, with three points awarded for a correct scoreline and one point given for a correct outcome.
We’ll keep a league table along the way, befoe crowing a winner at the end of the season.
Katy Sealy: Town’s trip to Bolton this Saturday is a game we must get all three points from. Especially with Norwich right behind us in the league we need the win to make sure we stay above them!
Bolton are struggling at the bottom and haven’t scored many goals in their last few games so I think Town should make the most of this and be able to dominate the game, hopefully! We just need to keep it tight in defence and hopefully another magical moment from Celina or someone getting on the end of a Waghorn set piece will give us a winner, I’m going for 0-1 Ipswich win.
Prediction: Bolton 0-1 Ipswich
José López Lerena: We just came out for a very important win over Leeds United which wasn’t only important for the three points as it has given us a kind of booster for our morale as well!
So i think we are starting to getting ourselves out of that storm and marching again so my prediction is we will get a win over Bolton Wanderers at their home this Saturday by 2-0 (Celina and Waghorn).
So fingers crossed for a good result to the Tractor Boys from Spain! Safe travel to the Blue Army! Come On Ipswich! Let’s do this!.
Prediction: Bolton 0-2 Ipswich
Benjamin Bloom: Despite being in 21st place Bolton have improved a lot since a meek surrender at Portman Road back in September, and a great run over Christmas saw them defeat Sheffield United,
Cardiff and Hull with clean sheets in all three games. Ipswich stopped their winless streak with victory over 10 man Leeds but are still missing several first team players with loan cover expected to be announced before the game. I’m going to go for a scrappy game and a 1-1 draw.
Prediction: Bolton 1-1 Ipswich
Amy Downes: Bolton is my first game of 2018 and the Macron one of my favourite Championship grounds, so the score will be a bit of a side story on a day which will involve spending time with good friends, old and new.
Despite the positive mood among other Town fans, I’m a little pessimistic. With injuries and comings and goings at the club, I see Mick taking a cautious approach which will likely mean a bit of a tedious game... I’m going for a nervy 2-1 win, we’ll sneak a last-minute goal from Waghorn so I can sing his song!
Prediction: Bolton 1-2 Ipswich Town
Joe Fairs: With Bolton having won three of their last five games, and keeping clean sheets in all those victories this promises to be a tight game.
Ipswich are not in great goal scoring form and I can see this game playing out as a stalemate. Mick McCarthy is generally happy with a point away from home and with the injuries affecting the squad, especially in the midfield, we will have a disjointed team out there which will see a number of players out of position and large gaps in the pitch between the defensive and attacking players.
Set pieces will be very important in this game, and could easily be where it is won or lost - let’s just hope that if there is a decisive moment from a set piece it is from the left foot of Martyn Waghorn!
Prediction: Bolton 0-0 Ipswich Town
Kieren Standley: This is the type of away trip where the majority of Ipswich fans will think ‘if we don’t win a game like this then we won’t win many away’ and that has an element of truth. On paper, Town have a much better squad and should go into this game confident of coming away with the three points, However, the Trotters are undergoing a mini resurgence which has seen them win three of their last five games, moving out of the Championship drop zone.
Last Saturday’s win against Leeds United should give us much needed confidence heading up to the Macron Stadium but we can’t take this game lightly. The form of Gary Madine has made a big difference for Bolton this season and with our tendency to concede soft goals, I worry we could see him add to his decent tally this season.
Nevertheless, Town are more than capable of getting a good result on Saturday and I don’t see Bolton having enough quality to brush us aside. The return of Bialkowski and the two new arrivals could be a big boost for Town heading to Lancashire but it looks to me that this game may be a case of the two sides cancelling each other out and having to settle for a point, something Mick McCarthy won’t scoff at.
Prediction: Bolton 1-1 Ipswich
Seán Salter: Ipswich should be full of confidence following their 1-0 win against Leeds United last weekend and I feel this will give Town the edge over the Trotters.
I’m hoping Mick McCarthy doesn’t tinker with his starting XI too much, the back four certainly deserve another start. If there are any changes, I’d expect Bartosz Bialkowski to replace Dean Gerken.
Wanderers have the Championship’s third leakiest defence and they will be no match for Ipswich’s fab front four. Martyn Waghorn has scored 10 goals already this season, although he hasn’t scored in the last eight games. I expect ‘Waggy’ to put the record straight at the Macron Stadium with a brace, following Joey Garner’s opener.
Prediction: Bolton 0-3 Ipswich
Kate Riley: Town will fancy their chances at the Macron stadium, that’s for sure. When Ipswich played them at Portman Road earlier this season, not only were there three points and a clean sheet for us but it was Bolton’s sixth league loss of the season.
Town can’t be complacent though; in fact the Blues need to watch out for Bolton’s new loanee Harry Charlsey. He’s no stranger to a goal or two; having been crowned Everton’s U23s top scorer last season.
Here’s to building on our recent victory against Leeds albeit against 10 men. 2-0 to Town with Bersant Celina’s brace.
Prediction: Bolton 0-2 Ipswich
Alistair Rattray: Town’s home game with Bolton back in September showed that the opposition were a stronger proposition than their lowly position suggested and they have improved since.
This will be a tough test for Towns threadbare squad and whilst loans elsewhere in the squad help, it is up front where McCarthy will be looking for his players to return to form.
Prediction: Bolton 1-1 Ipswich Town
Jack Prentice: Bolton is a match that Town simply must win to retain any hopes of being in the play-off picture after a much-needed win over Leeds.
It wasn’t a swashbuckling performance against ten men but that’s not important after a poor run over Christmas.
While Bolton are 21st and remain in the relegation battle, don’t let that fool you into thinking it should be an easy victory.
When they came to Portman Road in September they were well adrift at the bottom of the table and looked like being down by February.
Despite that, I can see another 1-0 narrow Town victory.
Prediction: Bolton Wanderers 0-1 Ipswich Town
