Glenn Driver’s Leiston side go into tomorrow’s league fixture at Tooting & Mitcham full of confidence following last Saturday’s brilliant 3-1 victory over Billericay Town.

Unfortunately, Tuesday night’s home game against Margate was postponed for a chance to put more points on the board.

“Last week’s result against Billericay was a big confidence boost, but more importantly I’m more delighted with the performance,” Driver said.

“When we went a goal down I thought the writing was on the wall, but we responded very well and outplayed Billericay for 70 minutes. That’s a credit to my players, their attitude and commitment on the day was outstanding and I congratulate them on that.”

The Blues, who sit in tenth place, remain seven points behind fifth-placed Hendon and are ten points behind Folkestone Invicta in fourth.

The Blues are set to recall Byron Lawrence to the side, who is available again after not being eligible to play against his parent club Billericay Town last weekend.

Darren Mills, who had a spell at Leiston under Richard Wilkins’ tenure back in 2015, has also returned to the fold from Bury Town, capping his first game back with a goal and man-of-the-match performance against Billericay last week.

“We go to Tooting on the back of a good win, but it will be a tough test,” Driver said.

“But I have said many times there is no easy games in this league and Saturday will certainly be no different.”

After tomorrow’s match, Leiston entertain Tonbridge Angels at Victory Road on Tuesday evening before hosting Harrow Borough next Saturday. In the Suffolk Premier Cup, Leiston have drawn Kirkley & Pakefield in the semi-finals, with a date and venue to be confirmed.

Meanwhile, Leiston Reserves will be hoping to get through to the semi-finals of the Suffolk Senior Cup tomorrow afternoon.

They host Brantham Athletic Reserves in the last of the quarter-finals, with the victors set to take on Bungay Town in the semi-finals. On Tuesday evening, the U18’s beat Newmarket Town in the County Cup quarter-finals 5-2 thanks to braces from Adam Blades and Charlie Canham, and a Jamie Smith goal. They will now play either Bury Town or Felixstowe & Walton in the semi-finals.
