A pioneering Suffolk martial artist has claimed a world title again – more than 20 years after he won his first.

Dennis Turner, who was well known on the East Anglian kickboxing scene of the 1990’s, travelled to Birmingham for the International Combat Organisation (ICO) World Cup Championships.

Turner, who runs Mamba Martial Arts in Ipswich with wife Zoe, first claimed a bronze in the mat light continuous section for the over 40’s (Masters), despite only entering at the last minute.

Then, in the Masters 85kg + ring continuous category, Turner rolled back the years.

He battled through three hard rounds against an opponent who had already won gold in another category, and came out with his hand raised.

Turner said: “I managed to do enough to take the gold and become a world champion once again, 23 years since I first got a world title.”
